Grading System
Columbia Business School’s academic standards ensure the integrity, consistency, and long-term value of the MBA experience while providing a framework for students to acquire the knowledge and the social intelligence to become sophisticated, ethical leaders.
Core Grade Distribution
H: 25–30%
HP: 55–65%
P1, LP, F: 10–15%
+/- may be used in core grades with the following restrictions: there is no H+ in the core and the number of pluses must be equal to or less than the number of minuses.
Students who do not complete coursework on time may be assigned an IN (incomplete) grade in a core or elective course. It is the student’s responsibility to reach out to the professor to determine what is missing for the course. The student then has the following semester to turn in the work needed to receive a letter grade for the course. If the student fails to fix the incomplete grade during the semester following the term in which they received the incomplete, they will receive an F in the course
Required Elective Grade Distribution
H+/A+: No more than 2%*
H+/H/H- AND A+/A/A- : < or = 50%
*Note: For courses with less than 50 students, you may assign no more than one H+ grade.
Any non-Business school (cross registrant student) should be included in this curve.
