3.1 Guidelines for Independent Study Supervision
3.1.1 Initiation and Approval
- Initiation Restrictions: Students cannot approach faculty for independent study if currently enrolled in their courses.
- Faculty Discretion: Acceptance is at the faculty member's discretion, based on study quality and availability.
- Approval Process: Faculty must confirm via email that they and the Department Chair have approved the study for rigor and appropriateness.
3.1.2 Faculty Limitations
- Regular Faculty: Can supervise up to 9 credits per semester (three 3-credit or six 1.5-credit studies).
- Junior Faculty: Limited to 6 credits per semester (two 3-credit or four 1.5-credit studies).
- Approval: Divisional Chair approval is required for each supervision.
3.1.3 Deliverables and Grading
- Submission: Students submit final deliverables to their Faculty Advisor.
- Grading Scale: H (10) to F (0), based on project quality.
- Scope Changes: Must be approved by the Faculty Advisor to ensure credit.
3.1.4 Grade Submission
- With Assigned Section: Submit grades via SSOL.
- Without Assigned Section: Email grades to [email protected].
